Letter of invitation to the UK

Quite a few people have rung me week asking me to notarise a letter of invitation.  I have advised them that notarised documents are not a requirement of the UK government and, therefore, not of their embassies around the world.  What that means is that you do not need to get a letter of invitation notarised.  You don't really even need to get someone else to write it for you.  If you write a good letter, that will be all you need.
